Nokia 5.1 Plus may be in the works, CAD renders reveal notched display, dual cameras

Late last month, HMD Global announced refreshed versions of last year’s affordable Nokia 2, Nokia 3 and Nokia 5 phones. This is part of the company’s plans to rapidly expand its portfolio this year and it looks like there’s no end in sight just yet. It now seems the company is working on a new phone, rumoured to be called the Nokia 5.1 Plus, with some interesting design elements, based on some CAD renders that have surfaced online.

The CAD renders comeĀ via OnLeaksĀ and TigerMobiles and they reveal a Nokia 5.1 Plus that sports a near bezel-less display up front with a notch that is noticeably wider than that seen on the recent Nokia X6 and a chin. In fact, the notch seems to be as wide as the iPhone X, suggesting HMD Global could house some extra sensor for a Face ID-like tech. However, since these are early renders, the final product, if it indeed exists, could look different.

Now that HMD Global debuted a notched phone with the Nokia X6, which has also seen a pretty great response in China, one can assume more Nokia phone in the near future with a notch. With that being said, the renders of the Nokia 5.1 Plus may just be the real deal. There is also a slight chance that this is the global variant of the Nokia X6, seeing as how HMD chief Juho Sarvikas teased a global launch of the Nokia X6 last month.

Additionally, the renders also reveal a vertical dual camera setup with LED flash on the back and a fingerprint sensor just below much like the Nokia X6. The reflective nature of the back suggests a glass cover on top. The renders also show various angles of the alleged Nokia 5.1 Plus, revealing a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top, a USB Type-C port and a single speaker grille on the bottom, volume controls and a power button on the right side.

Beyond the renders, not much else is known about the Nokia 5.1 Plus as of now. Since this is a Plus variant of the Nokia 5.1, you can expect a larger display and perhaps a bigger battery capacity while most of the specs are likely going to be similar to the Nokia 5.1. We should hear more on this phone in the days to come so do follow this space for more.
